LOLA FLANNIGAN

Abigail Drake's sci-fi

Hairdresser Lola Flannigan has a little electrical problem. After getting struck by lightning seven times, her hands now shock everyone she touches, except for one person; the very sexy, very wealthy Morgan Slade. But is Morgan really looking out for her, or is he just planning to use her to get what he wants?

I'm not your typical "sci-fi" gal. I don't like Star Wars, or Star Trek, or any other "Star" stories I can think of. I am categorically not crazy or weird - I just prefer to watch/read thrillers, mysteries, horrors, and hackers. So why am I telling you this? Well, I never thought in a million years I would enjoy a sci-fi romance novella! But I LOVED it!! It has what all great stories have: misperceptions, misconceptions, and misbehaving.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Abigail Drake travelled the world, collecting stories wherever she visited. She climbed mountains to see hidden temples, ate things that maybe weren’t quite dead yet, slept through three typhoons and an earthquake, and was once tossed onstage with the Red Hot Chili Peppers by a herd of punk rockers (eventually they allowed her to climb back off). She writes romantic women’s fiction and is a member of RWA, Pennwriters, Mindful Writers, The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and she is the president of Three Rivers Romance Writers. Three of Abigail’s books were released in 2016, “Traveller,” “Saying Goodbye, Part One,” and “Saying Goodbye, Part Two.” Abigail also writes Young Adult books under the name Wende Dikec. Her two most recent releases are “Tiger Lily” and “Starr Valentine.” “Tiger Lily” was a finalist in the Golden Pen 2015, the Golden Leaf for Best New Book of 2016, and the Dante Rossetti Prize for Young Adult Literature. It won first place in the International Digital Awards 2016 for Best Short Length Young Adult Novel.

LOST & FOUND

by Shilpa Mudiganti (sweet romance)

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and Aisha, who is still grieving for her ex boyfriend John is in for a surprise. Liam, John's bestfriend, who has had feelings for her but had to keep his feelings in check is ready to prove his love for her. But is she ready to risk her heart again?

While I ALWAYS try to be unbiased when I give my HONEST reviews, this time I'm having trouble. I feel as though Shilpa wrote this story about my own tragic loss. The names were the same, the dates were significant, and the story was almost identical. Now, it could be that this story was simply wonderful - I believe it was. If I take out my own feelings and attachment to this story, I think it earns five out of five stars on its own merit. It has a full gamut of feelings between the lively characters. It's a great read. Valentine's Day or any other.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Shilpa Mudiganti believes life is too short to read tragedies. She writes romance and fantasy fiction that always has a happy ending. No matter how hard the circumstances are, the hero and heroine will walk in to the sunset holding hands. IT professional by day and dreamer by night, she loves to hear from her readers about their life experiences. There is no inspiration like life.

AVALANCHE

by Kim Briggs (sweet romance)

Lexi returns to her first love, Wolf Creek Ski Resort, with ambitions of becoming a ski instructor. She soon finds herself in the middle of a longtime feud between Gabe, a snow groomer who gives off the broken vibe Lexi finds irresistible, and Harrison the fourth, playboy son of Wolf Creek’s owner who always wants what Gabe has. Tensions boil at Wolf Creek, and Lexi’s heart might not be the only thing at stake.

A fun story from beginning to end. It has likeable characters and a wonderful setting. If you are a NA or want to stroll down memory lane to when you were a NA, out on your own for the first time, then this could be the perfect Valentine's story for you.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kim once smashed into a tree while skiing. The accident led to a concussion, a cracked sternum, temporary notoriety as a sixth grader returned from the dead, and the realization that fictionalized accounts are way more interesting than just slipping on the ice.

An unhealthy obsession with conspiracy theories combined with a love of travel and happily ever afters led Kim to write her YA novel, Starr Fall, where a secret organization decides Starr Bishop would make the ideal assassin. While in hiding, Starr meets dark, moody, and dead sexy Christian Evergood. Cue the swoon worthy music.

But it’s not all happily ever afters for Kim, her NA novel, And Then He, explores the dark and scary corners of the human psyche. Following a night of innocent flirting with a handsome stranger, Tiffani finds herself in the midst of a nightmare she can’t escape.

And Then He is available now through Amazon and other major book retailers. Starr Fall released November 2016 with Inkspell Publishing, followed by Starr Lost January 2017.

When she’s not doing something writerly, Kim can be found jumping into snow drifts with her three kids, husband, and dog. She’s careful to avoid trees.

WHAT'S BETTER THAN A BOOK BOYFRIEND

by Sarah Vance-Tompkins (small town contemporary romance)

Shy librarian Charlie Bishop has spent every Valentine's Day in the company of one of her beloved book boyfriends. Despite his many attempt to gain her attention, Charlie is absolutely certain she has nothing common with hunky construction worker Hank Carter. So how far will Hank have to go to prove to Charlie he's better than any of her book boyfriends?

I don't really know what it is about small-town romances but they make me feel all cozy inside. This one is no different. There are unlikable characters to highlight the likeable ones, friendships that kind-of made me jealous, and plot twists that were perfect for a Valentine's novella.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sarah Vance-Tompkins was born in a small town in northern Michigan. She received an MFA in Film Production from the University of Southern California, and went on to work in feature film development.

Prior to film school, she wrote and produced radio and television commercials. A working writer, she has been paid to write everything from obituaries and press releases to breathless descriptions of engagement rings. She and her husband, The Handsomest Man Alive™, live in Southern California with three cats.

NOT TODAY

by Lisa Hahn (contemporary)

Emily Scott is mourning the loss of a parent. Ezra Cavanaugh is ready to give up on his dreams of literary success. Will their new connection be enough to help them pull through these trying times?

I couldn't have enjoyed NOT TODAY more if I had written it myself! What I mean is that there were so many similarities between this book and my own life that I had to giggle to myself every other page or so.

I love dogs (and cats) as much as life itself. I name my furry peeps after the biggest influences or favourite people in my life. I LOVE to cook, especially old family recipes. I am still mourning the loss of someone very special in my life. I have a thing for boy-next-door types. My dream is to be a writer. One of my dogs is a Havanese with a human name who loves to lick faces - especially the faces of those who feed him. I love tea time. I hate devilled eggs.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lisa Hahn writes romance novels across multiple sub-genres. She’s interested in stories that take place in either small towns or strange worlds, and she strives to create honest, passionate characters her readers can relate to.

Currently, Lisa and her husband live in northern New Jersey with their two dogs (Jonas and Cassie) and their cat (Blueberry). When she’s not writing, Lisa can be found reading, practicing yoga, working out, watching professional wrestling, stitching a piece of embroidery, making/eating vegan food, and rooting for the Seattle Seahawks.
